The late Aaron Devlin was remembered at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in Belfast.
The former Ballinderry and Derry footballer died in July at the age of 23 after contracting an aggressive strain of meningitis. The BBC didn’t forget the young man who sadly lost his life so young, and included him in their list of athletes who have sadly passed away in 2015.
There was a strong GAA presence at the ceremony as Sean Cavanagh, Oisin McConville and Anthony Tohill made an appearance . Aside from GAA, Northern Ireland soccer manager Michael O’Neill received the biggest cheer of the night from the home crowd. When he was named Coach of the Year after guiding Northern Ireland to Euro 2016.
Andy Murray was awarded Sports Personality of the Year for the second time in three years.After helping Britain win the Davis Cup, their first title since 1936.
The move from the BBC to remember Aaron was warmly received on Twitter with many praising the BBC and tweeting their memories of Aaron.
