Sean Quigley was one of stand out players of the 2015 championship

Fermanagh were the surprise package in the All Ireland Senior Football Championship this year. One man`s performances helped Fermanagh reach the quarter finals, that man is Sean Quigley.

Quigley performed constantly for the Ernesiders through the championship. Quigley was the top scorer as Fermanagh gained promotion from division 3 into the second tier. His 4-42 overall tally in the 7 games marked him out Fermanagh’s leading scorer as well as the overall scorer in Ireland. Also he was one of the highest scorers in the championship.

These exploits got Sean a nomination for a GPA GAA All – Star but ultimately wasn`t included in the All- Star football squad. Some may he deserved a place in the squad, which was dominated by All Ireland champions Dublin.

Sean will surely be a key player for Fermanagh next year as he looks to improve himself as a player even further. Even Joe Brolly is a big fan of him and has been complementary of him in the past. Recognising him as one of the few old school Gaelic footballers still playing the sport today.

Sean`s ability to get points will be vital in the league and in the championship. especially as Fermanagh will be hoping to go one better in the Ulster Championship next year after losing to Monaghan where Quigley top scored for Fermanagh once again kicking 5 points in the defeat.

Sean is a high scorer and is well known for scoring a lot in matches, for example in the round 2A qualifier he scored 14 points and was undoubtedly the stand out player as Fermanagh beat Antrim. Then he then kicked 1-03 as Fermanagh overcame Roscommon and also scored vital points as Fermanagh beat Westmeath in the last qualifier round.

His most impressive performance of the season came in the quarter final against Dublin. Many had Dublin to walk all over Fermanagh. But Fermanagh with the help of Quigley didn`t give up and fought to the very end. Quigley was the man who was instrumental in Fermanagh`s resilience scoring 1-8 as the Ernesiders bowed out of the competition with their heads held up very high, after doing themselves and their county proud.

Fermanagh can certainly go even further in next year`s championship if they play with the same heart that they did throughout this years competition.

Especially if Sean Quigley is on top of his game on the full forward line he can lead his county from the front. But hopefully his influence can rub off on the rest of the Fermanagh forwards so they aren`t just relying on Quigley, and if the other forwards hit the same high scoring heights of their teammate.2016 could be a very exciting year for Fermanagh.
