The AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Football quarter-final features the London champions against Munster champions Clonmel Commercials who make the trip to Ruislip on Saturday afternoon.
The London champions will certainly not be push overs, and will be looking to become the first London senior team to win an All-Ireland Club Championship quarter final. With Neasden Gaels and Kingdom Kerry Gaels who came close to progressing to the semi-final when they featured at the quarter final stage in previous seasons.
This is Tír Chonaill Gaels ninth All-Ireland quarter-final appearance since 2000, and with 16 London senior titles won since 1983. The club won their third London title in four seasons last month with a four-point win over St Kiernan’s.
The club has a strong team with the stand out player London captain Mark Gottsche, who made the Irish Post London Senior Football Championship team of the year 2015.
Tír Chonaill Gaels featured in last year’s quarter-final against eventual All-Ireland winners Corofin, where they only managed two scores and will look to go one better tomorrow.
TCG`s opponents, Clonmel Commercials, will look to go even further after their incredible Munster final upset victory over Nemo Rangers last month. Michael Quinlivan’s injury-time goal, which gave Clonmel a one-point win, and have to the talent to go far in the All-Ireland series.
Clonmel have Ian Fahey and Séamus Kennedy along with Jason Lonergan as they seek to go one step further in the competition and these lads are key to Clonmel Commercials game plan tomorrow.
The winners on Saturday will advance to the All-Ireland semi-final next February, where they will face Dublin and Leinster champions Ballyboden St Enda’s who defeated Portlaoise with a last minute point last week.
